Ladies Men

'Barenaked Ladies Are Me' album cover

News came last month that co-founder Steven Page had left Barenaked Ladies.
I’ve just noticed that my mention of the move got cut from another post, so here it is again.

I’m a few albums behind on BNL now thanks to lack of discretionary funds, but I got the Ladies bug when “One Week” hit the radio. The decision to snap up their catalog to date was sound. Perusing articles on the lineup change revealed that the 2006 album Barenaked Ladies Are Me is often referred to as BLAM, all the more reason for me to check it out.

My sister and I had a blast at a concert of theirs some years ago with a couple of friends, all of us totally unprepared for the audience participation that most of the die-hard fans there knew like Rocky Horror regulars. The biggest stand-out moment of the show for me came not from the frontmen Page and Ed Robertson, or even from Jim Creeggan, who based on his few yet formidable album contributions is rather the George Harrison of the group, but from Kevin Hearn in the form of his absolutely hilarious mashup of John Williams’ “The Imperial March”, a.k.a. Darth Vader’s theme, with Britney Spears’ “Oops... I Did It Again”. I haven’t been able to find a clip of it online.
