Money vs. Funny
The Daily Show on Monday night was a great example of Jon Stewart and his
writers at the top of their game. Stewart’s rant at CNBC and Jim Cramer in particular is the best excerpt. You could also just watch the whole megillah. [see below]
I only knew Cramer by reputation and from an occasional glimpse while channel-surfing — he’s the guy with red buttons shouting about financial stuff — until he started to pop up on various shows thanks to all the Wall Street hoo-hah. The freneticism is his schtick on Mad Money, but as a guest on other newscasts I’ve seen him be quite even-tempered and on The Colbert Report he’s a good sport when faced with the host’s own schtick. Jon Stewart loves to catch anybody shoveling manure or covering their rear, however, the more indignantly the better… and he seems to have caught Jim Cramer.
Visiting the Daily Show website for the above links revealed to me that Cramer is scheduled to be on the show tonight. CNBC’s own website is carrying an unsympathetic article about the event from The Associated Press. So if you have the time, I recommend catching up on their feud via the compilation page Comedy Central put together and then tuning in at 11 p.m. and/or to the repeat at 1:30 a.m, or 10 a.m., or 2 p.m., or 8 p.m. tomorrow. [Update from 2019: All of the segment- and episode-specific links are broken so they’ve been removed.]
