I came up with a series of posts for the blog to celebrate my 40th birthday.

I’d thought it would be a good way to (a) spur myself into writing brief reflections on some favorite things and (2) touch on certain subjects I hadn’t yet. Heh. Life does not go remotely as planned.

Now, to be sure, despite having Blogger problems to deal with back then — among
them real frustrations in the immediate wake of announcing what at the time was called 40 Favorites — I’m not blaming the lack of execution on that, because there were fewer than a dozen entries amidst my next couple of hundred posts.

I find myself not even halfway through an expanding list of subjects, just over the
hump betwixt my 50th and 60th birthdays, as I assemble this page to finally get all the relevant posts collected in a more elegant fashion than the blog allows when you click a label and get previews in reverse order of publication. First you’ll see the links to installments by numbers only, in case you’d like to preserve the mystery of what’s next, then following a graphic come links to subjects covered so far in alphanumeric order.

I’d begun the posts as such after putting together my original 40 Favorites roster,
based purely on brainstorming until I reached that number and in no way trying to accommodate everything I loved in pop culture, but soon found reason to deviate from it and then realized I’d been inconsistent on my list in terms of, say, going by artists’ names along with songs or not. There will surely be further adjustments as I continue.
